Five years back in 2001, I was enjoying my first days of freedom from that summer of concrete and iron bars. When I went searching for a little relief and a little relaxation. Finding my way to a familiar place, I met one of my befallen friend's older brothers, who tempted me to demonstrate my skill at my instrument. After spending the evening sharing knowledge and songs, watching the occasional fight between Will and Rob, we soon found ourselves playing with another close friend, a Mr. AutoMiguel, an usual name for an unusual character. After spending countless times crowded in my basement bedroom, traveling along the path of least resistance, we found ourselves at the door of a dank, damp, dingy house.
There the band met its drummer, Hambannabis, and soon created its home in his overly crowded living room. Evolving under this new found emporium of music, the band was finally formed. After a few years, a few roommates, a few arrests, a few asylums, a distant friend, unknown to us at the time, was in search of a home for his insatiable appetite for music. The yellow bird that was soon to land was busy making his nest with the dried roots of jazz and the common sorrows of man.
The attraction that was drawing near finally crossed in the spring of 04, where the now five member band, entered a community music contest. There they earned the respect and confidence of their fellows friends and soon began to play live shows at parties and bars in the surrounding area. There creating a following of friends, colleagues, and flops. They proceed to play all live music.
The first demo was recorded at DePaul’s Music College. A quick four track disk, which was a foreshadow of the self-titled album, Sweet Pick, allowed the band to circulate a physical copy of our live taste. Although many said the demo brought us "no justice", for our musical ability, it would provide the foundations for our first album.
Recorded at the HOUSE, by a dear friend, Colin Larson. The first album, Sweet Pick, is a compilation of songs with no particular theme or direction. The sporadic nature of the cd, with its variety of musical styles, was released on Halloween O5, to encourage our fans to share the cd with others who could not make the live shows.
The intellectual pursuits of the band vary from member to member. With one being a Music major at Columbia college, to an English major at Loyola University, an Anthropology major at the University of Illinois at Chicago, and a college graduate in Applied Psychology. With all these perspective viewpoints, the course of evolution for the band cannot precisely be determined. Topics of discussion range among politics, business ventures, substance abuse, gardening, fiction literature, and the bombardment of the same percussion teachers over and over again. Relying on the collective support for each member, most weekends and days are comprised of playing music, hanging out, listening to other music, and the occasional three a.m. whiskey drinking followed by a early morning stop at a diner.
The second Ep, title still to be determined, is scheduled to be release in summer of 2007 with crowd favorites such as American Still Thrill, Flock of Birds, and The Ant. It will continue the tradition of the live sound. We will also make a short video available with the EP. With this paragraph said and done I would like to thank all the outcasts, unlawful friends, citizens, bar mangers, venue owners, freaks, hippies, skaters, addicts, workers, Goths (matt at the metro), junior the kid, and the Hispanic crew . We really appreciate your support for our music and would like you to know that everyone is included; From the youngest buck, to the oldest sixty-era revolutionary. Everyone has a home with a Sweet Pick on it.
